So, what are we wearing next summer? Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 gave us quite a few answers — and thankfully, they weren’t boring. Prada made an entire collection about skirts, Fendi put bras on full display, Gucci messed with preppy dressing and tailoring got much more relaxed. Then came bright bags, huge earrings, animal prints and enough belts to make us reconsider everything currently sitting in our wardrobes.
The bigger mood feels just as interesting: clothes are becoming more personal, styling less formulaic and getting dressed looks fun again. Even Vogue noted a move towards collections that feel bolder, more experimental and less dictated by the algorithm. So, before you start planning your SS27 wardrobe, here are the 10 trends from Milan we loved most.

Skirts Are Everywhere for SS27

If you buy one thing next spring, make it a skirt. Prada built its entire collection around 63 different versions, moving between minis, midis, pencil shapes, pleats, prints and unexpected materials. The skirt also appeared across Jil Sander, Marni, MSGM and Moschino. The best part? There isn’t one “correct” version. Short, long, weird, romantic, simple: pick your personality.

Bra Tops Take Over the Runway

Underwear continues its escape from the underwear drawer. Milan put the bra right in the middle of the outfit, with Prada, Fendi, Etro and Alberta Ferretti among the labels embracing exposed bra tops. At Fendi, lingerie-inspired dressing became part of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s wider exploration of the body. Wear one under an open jacket, with a skirt or simply on its own.

Preppy Style Gets Messy

The polo shirt is back. So are rugby stripes, argyle and the kind of clothes that make you look like you might own a house in Connecticut. The difference is in the styling. Gucci played with preppy references and unexpected layering, turning familiar pieces into something far less predictable. The goal isn’t to look like you followed the dress code. It’s to look like you deliberately ignored half of it.

Relaxed Tailoring Defines SS27

Good news if the thought of wearing a rigid blazer in June makes you sweat already. SS27 tailoring is getting bigger, softer and easier. Jil Sander showed generous sculptural shapes, while Tod’s paired roomy blazers with wide-leg trousers. Think less corporate uniform, more jacket you throw over practically everything you own.

Animal Prints Are Here to Stay

At this point, leopard print deserves to be considered a neutral. Milan kept the obsession going while expanding the animal kingdom: Fendi explored reptile-inspired motifs, while Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli pushed animal patterns into much louder territory. Wear a little or go full safari. Subtlety isn’t compulsory.

Colourful Bags Make a Statement

Put the sensible black bag down for a minute. Milan’s SS27 accessories made a strong case for colour, with bags becoming an easy way to disrupt an otherwise simple outfit. Fendi, in particular, played with movement, colour and new treatments of familiar bags, while Milan more broadly pushed handbags back towards statement territory.

Oversized Earrings Are Back for SS27

Tiny hoops can stay home. Statement jewellery is returning, and earrings are doing most of the talking. The Milan runways embraced pieces designed to be noticed rather than politely complete an outfit. The easiest styling trick for next summer might therefore be extremely simple: white T-shirt, jeans, ridiculous earrings. Done.

Belts Take Centre Stage

And perhaps another one. The waist was a major focus at Ferragamo, where Maximilian Davis explored structure, posture and the way clothing shapes the body. Elsewhere in Milan, belts became much more visible styling devices rather than purely functional accessories. Who What Wear also singled out waist belts as one of the season’s emerging trends.

Soft Pink Is the SS27 Colour Trend

Barbie pink had its moment. SS27 is interested in something softer. Pale and powdery pinks emerged across the Milan collections as an alternative to both neutrals and ultra-saturated colour. Who What Wear identified soft pink as one of Milan’s key unexpected trends for spring. Basically, pink is staying — it’s just calming down a little.

Longer Hemlines Make a Comeback

Don’t throw away your mini, but make some room for longer skirts and dresses. Elongated hemlines emerged repeatedly in Milan alongside the season’s obsession with skirts, offering an alternative to several years of micro everything. Vogue Arabia identified the longer silhouette as one of the recurring SS27 directions. And yes, wearing something below the knee can apparently feel rebellious again.
