How many fashion TikTokers do you follow? TikTok has radically changed the way we perceive social media. Thanks to its algorithm, a new addiction has emerged, especially among younger audiences who spend an impressive amount of time checking out personally selected content on the app.
Along with this side effect and many others, including isolation, countless hours of scrolling and a general flattening of the brain while browsing, TikTok can also be considered the GenZ version of Google. Whether you’re looking for new places to visit in a city, planning a trip abroad or looking for a recipe, you can find inspiring content on the platform. Similarly, TikTok can be used as a search engine to deepen one’s knowledge of fashion-related topics.
In addition to various micro-influencers who contribute to fashion through their not-so-environmentally-friendly hauls, one can also find journalists, scholars and other kinds of experts unveiling unknown sides of the fashion industry such as historical facts, sewing techniques, ways to get a job and even private sales. The fashion crowd on TikTok is, therefore, very diverse, and the key is to find your niche, dive deep into it and eventually make the most of all the elements you can find on the platform. In this way, a source of entertainment can become a fruitful way to spend time while learning!

1. LYAS IS FENZY’S CREATOR AND WORTH-TO-LISTEN COMMENTER @ly.as0

From an entertainment platform to a fashion game on an app, Lyas has certainly transformed his career from a random guy posting stylish videos online to being invited to fashion shows. Can we consider him a fashion TikToker? Oh yes.
His application FENZY is a great tool to memorise the latest season’s fashion elements. After downloading the app, users can choose a category to test their fashion knowledge. The player has to determine who did what in the shortest time by looking at images; it’s the perfect challenge for you and your fashion-lover friends!
Although I’m usually not too fond of the kind of fashion critique (or mere opinionism) that passes through easily-digestible videos, I must say that Lyas’ content adds some value. During fashion weeks, he entertains his audience with a narrative-based analysis of each show. By showing a carousel of the runway looks, the TikToker explains both his point of view and the designer’s in a very accessible way, targeting a wide audience. And who doesn’t love a bit of a French accent?

2. BERLINESE ATTITUDE MADE ARCHIVE BY @brendahashtag IS ONE OF OUR BEST FASHION TIKTOKERS

Many people like to call her the Fashion Editor of 032C and Disruptive Berlin owner, but I prefer to call her MOTHER. Her exclusively black and white wardrobe takes Berliner coolness to the next level by incorporating archive elements on a daily basis.
Brenda Weischer, a former popular Tumblr girl, not only shares her style to inspire her followers but also sets a positive example of a conscious consumer who owns a sustainable wardrobe. She has declared that she purchases new, vintage, archival, and second-hand garments only when necessary and strictly after selling an underused piece from her wardrobe. Quite a sustainable example to follow, right?
Apart from being Rick Owens’ bestie, Brenda is the epitome of coolness. She always brings culturally relevant content to all her platforms, especially TikTok, by providing first-hand insights into the fashion industry, such as runway shows backstage, fashion show references from previous decades, and information about niche magazines.

3. AS FASHION TIKTOKERS A MAKE-UP LEARNING SESSION WITH @laravioletta WORTH MORE THAN ONE WATCH

Fashion magazine lover and creative make-up enthusiast Lara Violetta is not just a typical influencer. The knowledge she possesses transpires from the content she creates through the screen and gets straight to her followers.
During her make-up sessions, she not only inspires followers to try out bolder looks but also shares valuable information about the fashion industry, including styling tips and insights into the world of print media. Watching her videos feels like having a chit-chat with an older, stylish sister whose wardrobe you would love to raid.

4. TIME FOR A COFFEE AND A FASHION RECAP WITH @bernardgarby

Fashion students are often busy trying to balance their sleep schedule with the intense work at the sewing machine or taking breaks between shoots. In short, time is always running short when you’re working in fashion, even if you’re just starting out as a student. It can be hard to make time to read articles and stay informed, but Bernard Garby is here to help! If you don’t have the chance to check out a BOF article about the last creative director stepping down, his recaps are a real lifesaver.
Bernard mainly creates his videos while he himself is getting a meal or coffee ready, and listening to him feels like having a coffee date with that cool friend who somehow knows everything about everyone.

5. THE SMARTEST FASHION KID ON TIKTOK: @ryanyipfashion

Ryan Yip’s TikTok profile is a multifaceted platform that offers a combination of fun facts and real-life situations from a person who is starting out in fashion. As a student and an industry enthusiast, Ryan creates informative content that is based on his personal work and experience while covering a wide range of subjects.
As a fashion student, following the profiles of peers who share their research, interests and growth on social media can be very inspiring and educational. Ryan’s videos feel like talking with the smart kid in class, who you ask for notes. They are a must-watch when in need of exciting and informative content.

Fashiom theories really does mean a lot if youre trying to take fashion seriously. Even if you’re just trying to resell archive pieces, adding that extra bit of references to your product description adds credibility. Trust me, fashion theories really really save lives, or enhance your fashion lives. #fashiontheory #thinkingthroughfashion #fashionphilosophy
