Who said summer makeup has to mean glowing skin and rosy cheeks? The Spring/Summer 2027 runways are embracing a more experimental beauty mood, where glossy textures meet graphic eyeliner and dark colours create unexpected contrasts. Personal expression takes centre stage, with statement eyes balanced by natural, softly matte skin, less blush and a touch of bronzer. We asked Giulia Morelli, qualified beauty therapist, makeup artist and dermopigmentation specialist, to talk us through the biggest makeup trends for Spring/Summer 2027, from the runways of Gucci and Prada to Givenchy and Armani, and explain how to recreate them in our everyday beauty routines.

Gloss Is Back, and It’s Taking Over Your Eyes

Forget subtle shimmer. This season, eyeshadow is getting a seriously glossy upgrade. At Michael Kors, extra-long false lashes and colourful wet-look eyeshadows created dramatic beauty looks, while Gucci embraced high-shine finishes on both eyelids and lips. The result feels playful and slightly futuristic, with textures that catch the light and make even a simple colour stand out. To recreate the effect, try a cream eyeshadow or an eye-safe gloss designed for eyelids, keeping the rest of your makeup minimal. Sometimes, all you need is a little shine to make an impact.

Blush Is Taking a Break. Bronzer Is Having Its Moment

After seasons of ultra-dewy glass skin, the complexion is moving towards a softer, more natural finish. At Prada, Dior and Balenciaga, makeup looks favour a slightly matte base, minimal blush and bronzer to bring warmth to the face. Lips are also becoming more effortless, with nourishing balms replacing bold lipstick. The idea is to let your natural skin texture show while adding subtle definition. For an everyday version, sweep a little bronzer across your cheekbones and temples, then finish with a hydrating lip balm. Easy, fresh and perfectly suited to warmer days.

Forget the Perfect Wing. Eyeliner Is Going Extreme

The classic cat eye is getting a rebellious makeover. At Givenchy, thick, elongated eyeliner accompanied blue and green eyeshadow, creating deliberately messy, colourful looks. Kim Shui took things further with graphic shapes and theatrical false lashes that turned eye makeup into a statement. This season, eyeliner is less about symmetry and more about experimentation. Try extending your wing beyond its usual shape or swapping black for cobalt blue. Keep your complexion simple and let your eyes do the talking.

Messy Brows Are the New Perfect Brows

Put down the eyebrow pencil. Perfectly sculpted arches are giving way to a more natural, slightly dishevelled look. At Armani, softly defined brows complemented darker, smoky eye makeup, including shades of blue. As Giulia Morelli explains through her expertise in dermopigmentation, the trend also reflects a growing preference for techniques that recreate individual hairs and preserve the brows’ natural movement. The goal is a fuller, less structured appearance that feels effortless. Brush your brows upwards with a clear gel and fill only the areas that really need it.

Summer Goes Dark: Burgundy, Black and Grunge Eyes

Who decided dark makeup was only for winter? At Gucci, black, burgundy, brown and blue created an unexpectedly moody beauty direction for Spring/Summer 2027. Smudged edges and exaggerated eyeliner brought a grunge-inspired attitude to the runway, balanced by natural, softly matte skin and almost no blush. The appeal is in the deliberately imperfect finish, where a little disorder becomes part of the look. To make it wearable, blend burgundy or deep brown eyeshadow along your lash line and soften the edges with a brush. It’s an easy way to bring a darker mood into your summer makeup without going full gothic.
