Chills. It’s happening. The countdown to the final fashion show has begun.
On the night of June 13, 2024, at 7 PM, the elegant and historic Palazzo Ximènes Panciatichi located at Borgo Pinti 68 in Florence will host a grand celebration showcasing the talents of the third-year students in the Fashion Design & Accessories program at Istituto Marangoni Firenze.
The event will highlight the culmination of their theoretical studies on fabrics, materials, and marketing strategies, as well as their practical studies in drawing, digital renderings and pattern cutting. The students’ creativity will be on display through a fashion show and a behind-the-scenes exploration of their creative process. At the same time, for the first time ever in our Institute’s history, even a selection of students from Fashion Business, Styling and Art will have the possibility to actively participate in the organization of the communication aspect and the curatorial one.
Deconstructing the traditional fashion show
The Witness aims to not only have the audience witness a runway show at a gala evening in the city but also to enable them to become true witnesses of an entire creative process. This process is not only evident in the final result but also in its development, which is given particular attention.
The traditional concept of a fashion show has been reimagined to combine performance and exhibition, offering spectators two complementary experiences. A whole voyage into 10 different worlds would happen when faced with 10 different collections during the show, each possessing a specific grooming, make-up and sound – produced by professional sound artists and tutor Emiliano Zelada – dedicated to the discovery of the realm of each designer. A true performance in the runway will display our designers’ creations, while an exhibition will bring to light the backstories that often go unnoticed, giving insight into the creative process through fashion drawings, illustrations, and 3D digital designs authored by the school’s talents.
Indeed, each talent’s world, as we like to call it, will be showcased. This journey will take us through parallel worlds, highlighting similarities, metaphors, and strong contrasts. If we had to summarise the main focuses of the collections in five concepts, they would be knitwear, menswear, innovative material research, technological innovation, and sustainability.
