Textures of Time, Palazzo Vecchio

Abraham Yael Pérez Mosqueda lives and studies in Florence, Italy. He is an undergraduate student of Multimedia Arts at Istituto Marangoni Firenze. Over the centuries, Palazzo Vecchio, an ancient palace, is still fulfilling its original mission as the town hall for the city of Florence. It overlooks the Piazza della Signoria, which holds a copy of Michelangelo’s David, and the gallery of statues in the adjacent Loggia dei Lanzi. 

Palazzo Vecchio is the place in the city where the weight of history is most evident. Interestingly, although it is called “Vecchio” [“Old”], the clock tower has never stopped working for centuries. 
Multimedia artist Abraham Yael Pérez Mosqueda drew his inspiration from this continuous wheel of time. The artist drew the texture elements in his digital work from the materials making up the building façade and the square, including the bricks and the marble sculptures.

The result is a digital filter, which serves as an instrument to evoke an imaginary object running continuously through the ‘past’, ‘present’ and ‘future’ under our command.
A building connecting the ‘new’ with the ‘old’, Palazzo Vecchio has also been a venue for fashion exhibitions from the Nineties to this day.

Abraham Yael Pérez Mosqueda’s interest in giving time a visible body resembles the concept behind the Dolce & Gabbana 2020 fashion show.
The Italian designers created a collection inspired by the city of Florence and the local craftsmanship, with a fashion show seeking to give space and light to an Italian heritage redefined over time.
