The luxury accessories industry has evolved from humble beginnings in producing functional add-ons, to the elevated status it has today: turning bags, shoes, belts and small leather goods into new iconic objects of desire. Accessories embellish fashion, and the fashion business recognizes the embellishment, beauty and fame of accessories ‘Made in Italy’ elevating them to an international product. VALIDATIONS

AFAM
Participants who successfully complete this Master programme will be awarded with a First Level Academic Master Diploma. Recognised by MUR (Italian Ministry of University and Research) as an academic diploma equivalent to a university postgraduate level Master degree, participants will obtain 60 CFA (crediti formativi accademici) equivalent to 60 ECTS credits. Pathways available in Milano ‘Fashion Design with Womenswear Pathway’, ‘Fashion Design with Menswear Pathway’ and ‘Fashion Design with Activewear Pathway’ are a specialisation of the main course recognised by MUR ‘Fashion Design’. The final diploma awarded will state the main course title.

DISCOVER THE COURSE

Participants explore how Italian manufacturing is exemplary in its identification and use of materials and manufacturing techniques, and learn how to successfully balance design and functionality with sophisticated aesthetics; organized visits to Italian companies also provide first-hand experience of design and accessories manufacturing. Participants learn to design and create collections related to the concept of “decorative” luxury through the study of the most important international trends. Students also develop their research skills and become competent in presenting their ideas through the most advanced digital software without ever neglecting the physical aspect of a project.

The research into the history of luxury accessories and the influence of the contemporary fashion panorama on style concepts and production techniques, as well as current issues in sustainability and the use of new materials. Industry projects in collaboration with companies explores real business heritage values and manufacturing techniques, and the inter-seasonal nature of accessory products, putting together a coordinated collection and diverse range of accessories that may include: bags, purses, shoes and small accessory items.

Throughout the project they receive professional feedback and guidance from academics and industry professionals. Putting together a successful dissertation, work-experience and a personal accessories collection requires in fact a strategic mix of research, creativity, advanced design, and business project planning, this course provides the skills and knowledge to produce forward thinking design proposals for the high-end luxury market.
