DISCOVER THE COURSE

Today, working in culture needs more flexibility than ever, together with the ability to transform and to provide immediate responses to new or unexpected stimuli.

There are lots of questions and issues that the digital era has raised in the last two decades, even in the cultural world. How can we connect our artistic heritage with the future? How do we make languages commonly considered to be for the few, and even exclusive, more accessible and appealing. How do we stimulate and involve a vast, varied public, with so many different expectations? What strategies can we develop to make the most of the possibilities offered by new technologies without changing the artistic experience?

Constant dialogue with art and culture professionals allows course students to acquire a solid grounding, learning skills across the board, together with specific knowledge of the way the system works. On the strength of Istituto Marangoni’s many years of experience in the Fashion Business and Luxury Brand Management, the Master’s course offers a unique look at the international panorama, encouraging the development of dialogue between art and fashion, including with a business profile, focusing on corporate investments, branding strategies, and company marketing.

The new face of communication imposed by social networks is also central to this area, where hybridisation and contamination between art and fashion are now established as winning tools when it comes to successful promotion.

If on one hand, more and more brands choose to involve more or less mainstream artists to convey their identity or launch a product, on the other, more and more cultural institutes are choosing to be endorsed by famous faces from the international star system. This course is aimed at students with undergraduate training or proven professional experience in the field. Thanks to this course programme, students will have the opportunity to complete their training in the art business and cultural management, to go on to fill various roles in galleries, cultural institutions, publishing and even businesses in the fashion, luxury goods and creative sectors.

DISCOVER THE COURSE

Originated as a means to construct critical and theoretical reflection using the object on show, the task of the curator has been profoundly transformed, allowing itself to become seduced by the charm of its own application to other sectors, such as fashion and design. From the 1990s, the moment in which a new way of understanding fashion, the two areas saw an overlap between them in a partnership that is now a new and appealing challenge for the art world.

Record numbers achieved by recent shows dedicated to giants in the fashion world show the ability of this sector to reach a vast and varied public, even when it leaves behind the display cases and windows to enter the rooms of that sacred temple of art: the museum. Entering this context means following precise rules and accepting the dimensions that are so dear to the art world.

Aimed at students who already have a degree or proven career experience in this field, the Masters in Curating Art & Fashion offers a path through completely unexplored territory, where curatorship is being looked at in every aspect of its identity – curating an exhibition means taking care of a whole range of conceptual and organisational aspects regarding an exhibition project: content, layout, coordination, promotion, financial management – and its current declination between art and fashion.

Technological progress has always influenced the concept of art, setting new challenges and enlarging the boundaries of creating and experiencing works of art. The digital revolution is not only changing the way we live, but the contemporary artistic and cultural production too. While the difference between real and virtual is becoming increasingly blurred – such an extent to coin the term phygital – the work of art is gradually abandoning its material essence in order to be software: this phenomenon offers to the public new worlds, perceptions and experiences; unknown and futuristic scenarios that have never been seen before.

The MA in Creative Digital Media is therefore conceived in order to investigate the opportunities offered by the application of new technologies in art. The course aims to train professionals that are able to shape their artistic identity through an innovative and interdisciplinary oriented approach. Concepts such as interactivity, virtuality and digital immersion – which remove any physical or geographical limit – represent the core areas of study.
